Top 10 Goals for 2021

Andi’s List

1. More self-care
Whether that be scheduling myself a massage or just sitting in the bath by myself after Nolyn goes to bed, my goal is to spend more “me” time. Being a wife and a mom is hard. Always caring for others is hard. That is my nature and I love it (I am a nurse, after all) but it can be easy to forget about yourself. This year, I plan on setting aside time- maybe once a week, maybe once every 2 weeks, maybe once a month. But making it a point to do so.

2. Spend more quality time
I always heard about parents who would say “we haven’t gone out alone in months- even years!” and once becoming a parent you realize how easy that can happen. We also do not live by family so finding a sitter, someone we truly trust, can be difficult. It is my goal to set aside a date day/night once a month. Whether that be getting a sitter (we did find one we truly love and trust) or having a date at home after the kids go to bed, I want to be sure to spend that quality time just me and my husband.

3. Be more present
After working, sometimes all I want to do is sit on the couch and watch TV/be on my phone. I already try to catch myself when doing this but this coming year I am going to really set a goal of no phone time – unless totally necessary – from dinner time to Nolyn’s bed time. I already feel like time is flying with her and I want to make sure I soak in every minute I can with her alone and then with her and her sister.

4. Connect with friends and family more
This past year has shown us all how valuable the time we spend with others is. My goal is to make an effort in reaching out to those who I don’t get to see and talk to on a regular basis.

5. Have a safe and healthy delivery!
Come April 2021, we will be adding another Person gal to this household. Being pregnant can be a challenge. If you’re a mom, you know. Being pregnant with Type 1 diabetes means a whole lot more. It is a daily, minute by minute challenge that requires focus and a lot of discipline. I have been very lucky so far with two easy, healthy pregnancies despite having diabetes and I want that to continue all the way until delivery day.

Brit’s List

1. Focus on my mental health
This one is obviously very important for everyone. One habit that’s really helped with this daily journaling – it takes five minutes. This is the journal I used for 2020. The other, and most important habit, is to continue to spend quality time with my family. If there were to be a blessing of 2020, it would be the time we have been able to spend at home in order to slow down the day-to-day. I want that to continue to be a priority because nothing makes me happier than being with Keith, Cees and Betty!

2. Focus on being my most authentic self
I should add, without worrying about what others think. It is so easy to get wrapped up in the comparison game. I honestly think that people are their happiest when they are living in their truth. I also believe that people genuinely would rather see others as authentic than trying to fit a mold and/or trend. Being honest about my feelings and staying true to my heart is really important.

3. Sweat Daily
I’m stealing this idea from a friend and fellow blogger, Christen. I know this seems like a really big goal, but I do think it’s possible to get some activity in every day. I am working on making an actual schedule, I think that will help me stay on track.

4. Read 12 books
With the pandemic happening, I found myself reading more and do think it’s a great alternative to tv from time to time. Setting my bar a bit low but I want to accomplish this. One book/month is the goal so send your recommendations my way!

5. Travel with my family and friends
This is likely on everyone’s list this year, but I really cannot wait to GET AWAY and enjoy a change of scenery. I CANNOT wait until we can take CeCe to NYC!
